Gold Coast Smith St Overpass | PerfArt Project

Project Completion: 2018

September 30, 2020

Stoddart completed an architectural metalwork project on the Gold Coast Light Rail for CPB contractors which included general metal work, Town & Park components and most notably Perf Art screening which clads the Smith St overpass pedestrian bridge.

This bridge was designed by Cox Architecture with design input from Stoddart for the perforated metal. CPB contractors first approached Stoddart to complete the works as a variation on our existing contract and from there became involved in the design process. Samples were provided, and designs locked in within a matter of weeks.

Stoddart’s architectural drafting team worked closely with both CPB and the steelwork contractor, working from the same 3D models to ensure that all of the screening was designed to fit without any delay in the installation process.

The project included external cladding to both stair towers, balustrade infill panels to the stairs & cladding to both sides of the overpass itself. There was a total of approximately 560m2 of perforated material in the job punched to standard Stoddart patterns. All panels had a powder coat finish applied.

The project was a huge success with feedback received from CPB thanking Stoddart’s project management team for the effort to complete the project on time with minimal issues or delays.
